GLENVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of Glenville State University ‘s Student Veterans of America (SVA) and Glenville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5469 joined with community members and men’s golf and cross-country teams to honorably retire a U.S. flag in a ceremony this month.

The flag retirement ceremony was held at the Glenville Golf Club on September 1, 2024, and saw a notable display of patriotism respect on behalf of the community and student body as noted by GSMFS ‘s director.

“This ceremony was a powerful reminder of what the flag stands for and the sacrifices made by so many for our country,” said Glenville State Military and Family Support Director, Charles Yakubow. “We are honored to partner with VFW 5469 in this tradition and to continue fostering the values of service and respect.”

The Glenville VFW Post 5469 plan to continue their collaborative efforts with the Glenville State University Student Veterans of America to honor and support the families of veterans and veterans themselves by way of community initiatives and events.

Those interested in learning more about upcoming SVA or VFW events, or in becoming involved in either organization, have been encouraged to reach out the Charles Yakubow by phone at (304) 462-6155 or by email at Charles.Yakubow@Glenville.edu.
