(LOOTPRESS) – Former Alabama Football Head Coach Nick Saban made a mention of his West Virginia roots during the Pat McAfee Show on Friday.

The seven-time National Champion coach and West Virginia native Nick Saban joined the Pat McAfee Show on Friday to discuss different topics on the upcoming college football season.

WVU Football was one of those topics brought up by the show’s host and former WVU kicker Pat McAfee.

“West Virginia’s about to run the table, your thoughts as a West Virginia man?” McAfee asked Saban.

“Look, I’m a Mountaineer, that’s where I grew up,” Saban said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for the fact that you played there.”

“I coached there and I love my state, but their program has not been able to sustain the kind of success that they’ve had in the past,” Saban said of WVU Football. “Hopefully they’ll get back to having that kind of success in the future.”

Saban retired from the head coaching position at Alabama after last season and now serves as an analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay.

West Virginia opens their season against Penn State on Saturday, August 31, at noon.
