'I need him to come home:' Daughter reported John Sigman of Lore City as missing on May 13

GURESNEY COUNTY − On May 13, Shannon Sigman-West reported her father, John Sigman, as a missing person. To date, he has not been located.

West tried to reach her father repeatedly on Sunday, May 12, to no avail. She said he had gotten tired of answering the phone, due to the number of scammers and telemarketers. "At that point, something didn't feel right to me. So I left work and drove to the house. When I got there the door was locked, but everything was turned off." That was unusual for Sigman, as he typically would leave the television on for his dog whenever he had to go out.

"Everything looked weird. From the condition of the house, the dog had definitely been in there more than a few hours alone."

When West noticed his truck was missing as well, a report was made to the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office is investigating and believes the 77-year-old Lore City man left his home in his 2013 silver Ford truck, license plate HDW 7850, sometime after speaking to his daughter on the home phone on Friday, May 10. Sigman does not have a cellular phone, social media accounts nor credit/debit cards. He has recently begun experiencing memory issues.

According to West, she is unaware of any plans her father may have had to leave the house that weekend.

"He didn't go anywhere anymore. Last summer he started having some issues with memory, and I started taking care of some things for him." She tried to visit with him a few times a week, going to lunch or seeing what he wanted to do, to help check on him and make sure he was doing OK.

Sigman's lack of a cellphone and debit cards have made it hard for anyone to track his movements. Authorities have dredged three local lakes in an attempt to find the vehicle − Salt Fork, Seneca Lake and Wolf Run − to no avail. Numerous social media posts have been posted online and flyers have been distributed in the area.

Sigman is a great-grandfather, with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

"Him and my granddaughter are something else together. They are hilarious because he can't hear and she'll keep repeating herself and he would always ask for her whenever I would visit. There was never an issue with him forgetting people, he just was having some issues," West said.

She describes Sigman as one of the best people she has ever known. "He would do anything for anyone. I mean, if you were broke down, he's gonna stop. He just is that person."

Lt. Sam Williams with the sheriff's office has been West's main point of contact during the search and has assured her the search is still very much ongoing. "Everybody is looking for him. So for us not to have any idea where he is at all − I just don't understand," she said.

A silver alert has been declared for Sigman. The alert, a public notification, is typically issued when an elderly individual or someone with cognitive issues goes missing.

West has called local hospitals but has had no luck. "It's an all-day, everyday thing. I'm not going to stop looking for him. I just don't know where to go from here," said West through a tear-filled voice. "I need him to come home. I need him safe. It has been a nightmare."

If you have any information about the location of John Sigman or his vehicle, you can contact the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office at 740-439-4455 or by dialing 9-1-1.
