Three teams from the GazetteLeader’s coverage areas were division winners of the Northern Virginia Swimming League’s Sportsmanship Award for the 2024 summer season. The Donaldson Run Thunderbolts took that honor in Division 1, with the McLean Marlins winning in Division 2 and the Vienna Aquatic Club Gators in Division 4.

Virginia Dream FC soccer team wins another championship
The Virginia Dream FC soccer team, on the heels of becoming the United Premier Soccer League’s DMV South Conference playoff champions, also won another recent title. The Dream, based in Falls Church, defeated the host Annapolis Blues, 2-0, to win the men’s National Premier Soccer League’s Mid-Atlantic Conference crown. The win came after the Dream earned a 3-2 comeback victory over Alexandria Reds Pro in a semifinal match.

Shouse Village wins a second straight division swim title
For the second straight summer, Vienna’s Shouse Village Sharks won a division championship in the Northern Virginia Swimming League. This year, the Sharks won the Division 12 crown with 4-1 record. That came on the heels of a Division 14 title with a 5-0 mark in 2023. Overall, the team has won 10 division championships in program history.
Restored historic DC mini golf course re-opening this summer!
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The East Potomac Miniature Golf Course, America’s oldest continuously operating miniature golf course, and the only outdoor miniature golf course in Washington, D.C., was recently restored to much of its original 1931 splendor by Adventure Golf & Sports (AGS) and will be re-opening this summer. “We were very pleased to have been selected by National Links Trust to rehabilitate this course,” said Scott Lundmark, President of AGS. “This course is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and required exceptional attention to detail.”
