Abused German Shepherd Argon rehabilitates in Orange County
The abused and abandoned German Shepherd Argon, found in Malibu Canyon over the July 4 weekend with his muzzle and neck zip-tied, arrived in Orange County on Wednesday, July 10 for treatment and tenderness. Local animal rescue group German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GCROC) located in Newport Beach, took Argon under their wing to provide veterinary care and emotional healing. Argon is currently recovering at Saddleback Animal Hospital in Tustin, while undergoing additional testing to determine the best course of treatment.
New 163-Unit Affordable Housing Project Breaks Ground in Long Beach's Midtown
The City of Long Beach has officially embarked on a journey to expand its affordable housing inventory with the groundbreaking of 1400 Long Beach, a new 163-unit complex catering to low-income families. Located in the heart of Midtown, the project aims to transform a previously vacant lot into a community-enhancing residential space. Mayor Rex Richardson, at the ceremony said, "We are thrilled to begin construction for this exciting project in Midtown," and emphasized the city's ongoing mission toward increasing affordable housing availability.
Laredo, East LA and Hialeah, among the Latino-heavy cities with the highest poverty rates in the U.S.
A new study of the ten census-designated cities with 100,000 or more residents and high Latino populations showed their poverty rates are 50% higher than the national average. The ten communities, which include Laredo, Texas; East LA and Hialeah, Florida had an average poverty rate of 18.7%, considerably higher than the national poverty rate of 12.5% and the overall Latino poverty rate of 17.2%, the report by Axios shows.
