LOS ANGELES (TCD) -- An actor stands accused of trying to kill a makeup artist inside her Los Angeles-area home before fleeing and getting caught at the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 23, 34-year-old Nick Pasqual allegedly broke into the home of his estranged girlfriend, identified by KABC-TV as Allie Shehorn, and stabbed her repeatedly. The victim sustained more than 20 stab wounds, KTLA-TV reports.

Shehorn had reportedly filed a restraining order against Pasqual shortly before the attack.

The victim suffered critical injuries and underwent multiple surgeries, according to KTLA. As of May 27, she was still in the intensive care unit.

Authorities obtained a warrant for Paqual’s arrest on May 24 on one count of attempted murder, one count of first-degree residential burglary with person present, and one count of injuring a spouse, co-habitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend, or child’s parent.

The district attorney’s office alleges Pasqual also inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim under circumstances involving domestic violence and used a knife during the commission of the crime.

Officials apprehended Pasqual at a U.S.-Mexico border checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas. He will be extradited back to Los Angeles and faces up to life in state prison if convicted.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said, "My thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with the victim in this horrific incident."

According to his IMDB credits, Pasqual has appeared in "How I Met Your Mother" and "Rebel Moon." Shehorn reportedly worked as a makeup artist on "Rebel Moon," "Lumina," and "Babylon."
