The Los Angeles Lakers selected USC basketball guard Bronny James 55th overall in the NBA Draft on Thursday afternoon, a development that prompted a rare positive take from sports talk show host Skip Bayless.

Bayless has been highly critical of LeBron James and the Lakers over the years but said on Thursday that James "earned" the right to "make what just happened happen," suggesting that the Akron, Ohio native greased the skids in favor of his son's drafting by General Manager Rob Pelinka and the rest of the Lakers' front office.

Bayless said that he believes Bronny's game is the "perfect complement" to LeBron's for myriad reasons.

"Bronny's game perfectly complements LeBron's," Bayless said. "3&D. High IQ, low ego. Shares dad's feel for the game. Can't wait."

Bronny James suffered a sudden adverse cardiac event last July 24th while practicing with the USC basketball team. He was later diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, an issue that affected his first season with the Trojans and consequently his draft status.

Bayless also took aim at rumors that Bronny James' agent Rich Paul threatened that his client would take his talents to Australia if he was drafted by any team other than the Lakers.

"I don't care because Bronny James belongs with LeBron James," Bayless said.

"Bronny James can handle playing alongside his all-time great father, the greatest scorer in the history of the NBA. Bronny James was born for this, made for this...This is a tough kid, mentally tough, physically tough kid."
