A little more than a month ago, 37-year-old Johnny Wactor was shot dead in downtown Los Angeles. His killers still haven’t been found, and this weekend people gathered to honor his memory and call for actions to make the city a safer place to live.

Held this Saturday at 11 a.m., the “A Mile for Johnny” event drew relatives, friends and supporters to North Hollywood Park. It featured a DJ and speeches from the former “General Hospital” actor’s friends.

According to a press release about the event, Wactor was killed by a gang of thieves who were attempting to steal his car’s catalytic converter.

At the time, he was walking with Anita Joy, a female co-worker and friend of nearly a decade, after a late-night bartending shift. Per the press release, they came across three masked individuals tampering with Wactor’s car. As he stepped in front of Joy, Wactor was shot and killed.

“Following his murder, friends and supporters of Johnny have taken to social media and news outlets to urge local politicians and law enforcement to prioritize the search for Johnny’s killers and to pursue action against them, as crime in Los Angeles continues to rise,” said the release.
