Klay Thompson's Dad's Reaction to Rejecting the Los Angeles Lakers Goes Viral

If you’re a father who just saw his son sign a $50 million contract with an NBA team in free agency, you’re probably going to feel proud, no matter which team it was with.

Right?

Apparently, Mychal Thompson, the father of new Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson, was a little bit less than thrilled when his son chose to reject the Los Angeles Lakers for a spot down in the Lone Star State.

Mychal played for four years with the Lakers during his NBA career, and he was hoping that his son would follow in his footsteps. When asked about the move from Klay, Mychal was a bit tepid in his response.

“I’m not feeling too much in a congratulatory mood,” Mychal said. “He grew up a Lakers fan, he grew up idolizing Kobe Bryant. … It seemed like to be the perfect fit. … I’ll live with it.”

It's not too hard to see where Thompson is coming from, but fans online are giving him a hard time for his relative lack of support in this instance.

We suspect that deep down, Mychal is incredibly proud of Klay and the fact that he got this opportunity, but it is apparent that he’s a bit bummed out that his son won’t be wearing the purple and gold.
