The Los Angeles Lakers and free agent forward LeBron James have reportedly agreed to a two-year, $104 million maximum deal, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN 's Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday (July 3).

"Free agent LeBron James has agreed to a two-year, $104 million maximum deal to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell ESPN. Deal includes player option and no trade clause," Wojnarowski wrote on his X account.

The reported deal comes days after James opted out of the final year of his previous contract, as well as the team's selection of his son, Bronny , in the second-round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

James signed with Los Angeles in 2018 and led the franchise to its 17th NBA championship -- second to the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics for the most in league history -- in 2020. The Lakers have, however, missed the playoffs twice during James' tenure and been eliminated twice in the first round.

James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, had publicly expressed interest in playing with his son, Bronny , prior to the team selecting him at No. 55 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft last week. LeBron and Bronny would become the first father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time.
