Bronny James prediction made as Lakers fans urged to temper expectations

    By Charlie Wilson,

Bronny James has been told that he is likely to be with the Los Angeles Lakers' G-league team throughout the majority of his rookie season in what could be a significant blow to LeBron James.

James Sr had his dreams come true last week when his eldest son Bronny was selected by the Lakers in the second round of the NBA Draft, before he signed an extension to remain with the team - where the two could be the first father-son duo to play together in the league.

Bronny surprised many with his decision to declare for the NBA Draft, after being a rotational player with USC - starting just six games and playing minutes per game. But after impressing in the pre-draft combine with his shooting, athleticism and defensive abilities, he began to climb up draft boards before eventually being selected with the 55th pick.

However, ESPN's insider Adrian Wojnarowksi expects to see James Jr spend the majority of his rookie season away from the Lakers, with him likely being sent to their G-league affiliate team, the South Bay Lakers.

Speaking on SportsCenter, he said: "Well, what the Lakers’ expectations are is he’ll largely be a G League player like almost any 19-year-old player coming into the league drafted in the second round. What you’ll ultimately probably see is Bronny James in the first week of the season on the court with his father in a very – I don’t want to call it ceremonial, but the eyes of the world will be on that.

"They’ll do that the first week of the season, but there’s no expectation Bronny is going to be in the Lakers’ rotation."

The South Bay Lakers do share the same training facility as the NBA team, where Bronny will hope to impress in order to crack into the 12-man roster alongside is father.

The 19-year-old faces a tough challenge to do so, with the team currently having a 19-man roster with 14 of those having significant experience of playing in the league.

This week, James Sr signed a two-year extension to remain with the team, a decision that was likely made easy for him after the Lakers drafted his son and hired his close friend JJ Redick as their head coach.
