A family is demanding answers from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department after they say a deputy did nothing to save their dying loved one.

According to the LASD, the incident was first reported on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Parks Bureau deputy was called to Vermont Avenue near the 105 Freeway overpass where a vehicle had been shot at.

The department said in a statement, "From the patrol car, the Deputy requested assistance from South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station and the Los Angeles County Fire Department."

After additional officers arrived, a woman, later identified by her family as 22-year-old Raejonette Morgan, was pulled from the driver's seat of the bullet-riddled car.

Morgan was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she died Thursday.

Her family and witnesses say the responding deputy was right there as Raejonette struggled to take her last breaths and did nothing to save her.

Community activist Dionne Leslie-Pullen started recording moments after the shooting. She tells KNX News' Karen Adams , she tried to help.

The video shows Leslie-Pullen walking up to the white Mercedes-Benz as a deputy is standing just outside his patrol car with the door propped open - It appears he's on his radio.

Leslie-Pullen notices Morgan was still breathing and alerts the officer, who remains at his patrol car. It's only when Leslie-Pullen uses her shoes to break the Mercedes passenger-side window that the deputy approaches it.

"He was right there when it happened," Leslie-Pullen said. "Why didn't you chase him?" referring to the suspect, "We could have got a license plate, we could have got just a little glimpse of the vehicle, and you would have chased him... You didn't do one thing even when we busted the window; you did not take action."

The Morgan family is heartbroken, saying they want justice and are not only asking for Raejonette's killer to be caught but also want the sheriff's department to investigate the actions of the deputy.

A statement released Thursday on behalf of the family said in part, "This deputy's inaction captured on video is reminiscent of the Sheriff's deputy in the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas who stood by as children were being shot to death and he refused to offer any aid to school children who were begging for help and died."

"We are also calling for a meeting with Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff Robert Luna , who has a long track record of great character and integrity," the statement continued. "What his deputy did, which was captured on cell phone video by a good Samaritan in refusing to render aid to a shooting victim, was shocking, reprehensive, and inexcusable."

The LASD said it is conducting a critical incident review to determine whether any policies or procedures were violated. The department says it is deeply concerned and extends its condolences to the Morgan family.

So far, no arrests have been made.
