LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were hoping to make a big free-agent splash before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.

But as the start of the season quickly approaches, the Lakers are still right where they began.

LeBron addressed these concerns in a recent interview with ESPN's Dave McMenamin at Team USA training camp.

"Rich Paul told me that leading up to signing that deal you were willing to take a pay cut to sign an impact player. But here we sit — Klay Thompson's with the Dallas Mavericks, DeMar DeRozan's with the Sacramento Kings. What do you think happened?" McMenamin asked.

"It just didn't happen. And that's okay, it's part of business," James replied.

LeBron signed a two-year, $101.4 million contract with the Lakers — $3 million less than the max.

While the Lakers haven't had any success in free agency this offseason, the franchise did add two new rookies through the NBA draft: No. 17 overall pick Dalton Knecht and No. 55 overall pick Bronny James Jr.
