A woman was taken into custody Tuesday after leading authorities on a chase in a reported stolen car that began in the Sun Valley area and ended in the Van Nuys area.

The chase began shortly before noon in the 8000 block of De Garmo Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Toyota Camry went onto the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, and exited about 12:15 p.m. in the Pacoima area, followed on surface streets by patrol vehicles.

A few minutes later, the silver car stopped near Arminta Street and Willis Avenue in the Panorama City area. Meanwhile, Los Angeles police had backed away from the chase, as the driver drove recklessly on surface streets.

While stopped in the Panorama City area, the woman got out of the car, took some items from the trunk, and got back in, as passersby walked past the vehicle. And when a law enforcement vehicle approached the parked car, she drove off again and sideswiped a utility truck.

About 12:45 p.m., the Toyota stopped on Raymer Street near Keswick Street, and after a brief standoff with officers, the woman climbed out of the driver's side window and surrendered.
