    Burglaries jumped 4% in L.A.: LAPD

    In the first six months of 2024, the number of burglaries in Los Angeles has reached the highest level since 2018, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

    “Burglaries are up 4%, or plus 299, compared to 2023 and up 2.2%, or plus 170, compared to 2022,” Interim Police Chief Dominic Choi told the Board of Police Commissioners on Tuesday.

    He added that commercial burglaries were up 4.1% compared to 202 and that residential burglaries were up 3.9%.

    There was also a more than 6% jump in burglaries in areas patrolled by the sheriff's department.

    The biggest jump was seen in the Wilshire division, which includes the Fairfax District where Chief Choi said there was an increase of 86 additional residential burglaries.

    Some Angelenos told KNX News’ Jon Baird they keep track of the crime trends on social media, such as the app Next Door.  One woman said. the city needs to get it together.

    “The city needs to be safe again,” she said. “It's not safe walking at dark anymore in this neighborhood.”

    Police added the break-ins had been occurring between 6 p.m. and midnight.
