Lakers Coach Makes Statement on Big Bronny James Decision

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James is not having a great start to his professional career. Averaging 5.0 PPG on 23.0% from the field and 0/12 from three in Summer League, James has struggled mightily, and could be heading towards a G League stint.

While a 55th overall pick spending time in the G League is not uncommon, James will always have a lot of eyes on him because of his father LeBron James. Fans want to see these two on the court together, which of course cannot happen if the former USC guard is playing for the South Bay Lakers.

Speaking with ESPN's Dave McMenamin , Lakers Summer League coach Dane Johnson was asked about a potential G League stint for James, and said, "I don't know about that yet, so I can't really comment on that. But I think all these guys are going to be in the G League at some point -- the draftees."

The G League is different from other professional leagues, as players often move back and forth from the G League to the NBA throughout the course of a season. This means that even if James begins in South Bay, he could still spend time with the NBA team on a regular basis.

This is a big decision for the Lakers to make, and according to their Summer League coach it is one that has not been made yet. That said, it is reasonable to assume James will be spending some time in the G League.
