Lakers Insider Identifies 5 Teams LA Has Failed Trade Talks With

It's been quite the offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers as the front office hasn't made many moves to improve the roster. However, it sounds like the team has been trying all offseason long to get some kind of trade done. But who have they negotiated trades with? The latest report identifies the five teams LA has reached out to.

So far, the franchise has swung and missed every opportunity. After failing to acquire Klay Thompson, Jonas Valančiūnas, and DeMar DeRozan, the Lakers took to the trade market.

However, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reveals the Lakers couldn't strike a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, and Orlando Magic. Los Angeles is now reportedly remaining patient until another opportunity presents itself.

"The Lakers' inactivity has not been due to a lack of trying. They struck out with Klay Thompson, were unable to land other impact free agents like Jonas Valančiūnas and DeMar DeRozan, and have failed thus far to find common ground in trade talks with Portland, Brooklyn, Utah, Toronto, and Orlando. Now, according to league and team sources, the Lakers are expected to remain patient in their quest to improve their roster."

It's not entirely clear what the Lakers offered Portland, Brooklyn, Utah, Toronto, or Orlando. But whatever it was the packages were just not enough. Additionally, it's currently unknown who Los Angeles was targeting from those five teams via a trade.

LA did re-sign LeBron James to a two-year max deal worth $101.35 million. Additionally, the front office selected exciting rookie prospect Dalton Knecht and James' son, Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft.

That's about it when it comes to offseason acquisitions to the roster. They did move on from Darvin Ham as head coach and replaced him with JJ Redick. But even that situation was a bit of a mess after reports indicated the Lakers swung and missed on hiring UConn Huskies coach, Dan Hurley.

There is still plenty of time remaining in the offseason for the Lakers to make some head-turning moves. Maybe they have some tricks up their sleeves to eventually improve the roster. Especially considering they must build a roster that helps Anthony Davis and LeBron James compete for another title.

The Lakers will likely remain in the trade market as their top free agent targets have already signed elsewhere. The next season doesn't tip off until late October. So, Los Angeles may decide to become more aggressive come August and September.
