Shohei Ohtani Breaks Dodgers' 28-Year Drought In MLB All-Star Game

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani stepped to the plate in the third inning of the 2024 All-Star Game on Tuesday and did what he seemingly always does: Hit a home run.

Per ESPN reporter Alden Gonzales, this was Ohtani's first All-Star home run and the Dodgers' first home run in the All-Star Game since 1996.

"Shohei Ohtani sent a hanging Tanner Houck splitter 400 feet, giving the National League a 3-0 lead in the third inning. That's his first career All-Star Game home run and -- shockingly -- the first Dodger homer in the All-Star Game since Mike Piazza in 1996," Gonzales posted on X.

After Jurickson Profar singled and Ketel Marte reached first on an error, Ohtani capitalized on Houck's struggles. The three-run blast gave the National League a 3-0 lead.

Ohtani is playing in his fourth All-Star Game. Unlike his first three selections, he is representing the National League after moving from the Los Angeles Angels to the Dodgers. Ohtani has an NL-best 1.036 OPS and 29 home runs this season.
