Another NFL Talking Head Blasts Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert In Ridiculous Way

    By Vincent Frank,

Has Justin Herbert lived up to expectations as the Los Angeles Chargers’ starting quarterback since they selected him No. 6 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft?

After four seasons, it does seem to be somewhat of an open question. The Chargers are 30-32 in his 62 starts since the Oregon product made his way to Southern California. But quarterback wins are not a real stat. That’s what some will rightfully say.

What we do know is that circumstances outside of a young quarterback’s control play a major role in how he does early. For everything that has happened within the Chargers’ organization during Herbert’s still-young career, he’s shown himself well on the football field.

This has not stopped some from laying into the still-young 26-year-old quarterback. Get a load of the next TV talking head spewing nonsense about the quarterback. It truly is amazing.

Just recently, the veteran radio and television personality took time out his pedestrian (to put it lightly) show in order to criticize Herbert for. No, wait. The number of head coaches he has had in the professional and college ranks.

We’re not even close to kidding.

“Between college and the pros, the dude’s had 6 head coaches, maybe he’s the problem,” Carton on Justin Herbert .

What is he even talking about here? Herbert is to blame or the lack of longevity of head coaches at his two stops since leaving Sheldon High School in Eugene?

We know it’s still the slow part on the NFL calendar. Media needs to fill the air somehow. But this is all sorts of ridiculous.

    • Herbert led the Ducks to 35.4 points per game as a freshman in 2016. They posted a 4-8 record under head coach Mark Helfrich. He was fired.
    • In 2017, Willie Taggart was fired just 12 games into his first season. Why? Three Oregon players were hospitalized after military style workouts. Multiple sources called the workouts “akin to military basic training, with one said to include up to an hour of continuous push-ups and up-downs,” per the Oregonian . Blame Herbert.
    • Mario Cristobal took over on an interim basis in Eugune. He led the Ducks to a combined 21-6 record in Herbert’s final two seasons. Blame Herbert.

We don’t even need to tell Chargers fans about their head coach situation up until the hiring of Jim Harbaugh earlier this offseason. Herbert’s first two NFL head coaches, Anthony Lynn and Brandon Staley, are not as much as coordinators in the league right now.

Blame is needed. But we have to place it in the right direction or we’re going to look the part of fools. It’s that simple.
