UFC President Dana White was Shaq's guest on the latest edition of the Big Podcast. Aside from talking about MMA and the UFC, Uncle Dana also spoke about his newest brainchild - Power Slap.
While White was explaining how he discovered slap fighting and licensed it into a sport, the Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Famer butted in and challenged his Inside the NBA co-host Charles Barkley to a power slap match later this year.
"September 19th, me and you Charles Barkley," declared Shaq." I'm gonna smack the fu** out of your a**"
" Oh I love it, I'm in." quickly replied White.
Slap-fighting is a combat sport licensed by the NSAC
Shaq vs Chuck in a slap-fighting contest would be huge for White's Power Slap slap-fighting promotion. Founded in 2022, the promotion has completed two seasons with season 3 set to begin on July 24th.
Viewers initially frowned at the idea of slap-fighting due to concerns about the health of its participants. However, after White licensed it with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, slap fighting as a combat sport took off in the United States. And White's Power Slap company has been growing at a rate that no one, not even Dana himself predicted.
" This thing's been around for 17 months, " added Dana. "It is the most successful thing I've ever been a part of in such a short amount of time. Where Power Slap is right now in 17 months, it took the UFC 10 years to get there."
It was Chuck who originally challenged Shaq to a slap-fighting contest
This isn't the first time that a slap-fighting contest between the two NBA Hall of Famers has been discussed. Last December, Barkley challenged O'Neal to a slapfight during an episode of Inside the NBA .
"Dana White, me and Shaq in a Power Slap match…Book it. Pay-per-view….I get to go first? I'm gonna knock your a– out". Boasted Barkley.
White heard the Round Mound of Rebound talk and actually booked the two former NBA stars to a Power Slap event during the Super Bowl 2024 weekend. However, Barkley recanted and said he'd rather fight Kenny Smith because Shaq is too big and pretty strong. We'll see if Charles is willing to slap it out with the Diesel.
