Chargers rookie Cam Hart dominates first day of training camp

The Los Angeles got a steal when they took Notre Dame corner Cam Hart in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. So far, it looks like that selection is paying off.

The pick stole a downfield reception from East Carolina UDFA wide receiver Jaylen Johnson. Hart boasts one of the best athletic profiles on the team at 6'3", 202 pounds with 33-inch arms. He is everything this team needs in a corner, and it looks like head coach Jim Harbaugh feels the same way .

To be able to be that long, he's pretty strong like a Derwin James. For them to backpedal, plant and drive on things, it's harder than the smaller, littler guy. It's a good, rare combination. We look at him and go you got the license and ability to go a long way in this game. He's right on track.

Speaking of Derwin James Jr., here is what he had to say after camp today:

I love Cam Hart. I'm a big Cam Hart fan. He's a big, confident guy ... long out there. He looks like a basketball player out there he's so long. But he's learning every day, is coachable every day. The sky is the limit for him.

While Asante Samuel Jr. and Kristian Fulton are the team's current starters, there is no reason to keep Hart off the field if he keeps making plays like this. Keep an eye on Hart and whether he can push into the starting rotation over the next few weeks.
