Glen Powell is the man of the moment thanks to the summer blockbuster “Twisters,” and he’s sharing the spotlight with his dog, Brisket.

And the pup of the moment has his very own L.A. story.

Before Brisket was Brisket, he was Ambrosia, a terrier-poodle mix surrendered to L.A.-based rescue the Labelle Foundation.

“So we rescued Brisket's mom and the six babies that she had -  Brisket being one of them - from Bakersfield,” Samantha Peraino, the head of operations, told KNX News. “About 85% of our dogs come from the two shelters in Bakersfield - Bakersfield City Shelter and Kern County Shelter.”

The foundation posted him on its Instagram page in June 2023 where he caught Powell’s eye.

“I was going through a breakup at the time and was in the middle of Enid, Oklahoma, and I had always wanted a dog," Powell told Entertainment Weekly . "It was something I thought about a lot, but it was somewhere in this coffee shop in Enid.... I don't even know how to describe it, I just had the desire to be a father."

With a little help from a friend, Powell’s pup was picked from his foster family and well on the way to his new home.

“We actually were reached out to through like a mutual friend of ours and was like, ‘Can you guys hold this dog for Glen?’” Peraino recalled. “And so we made it happen.”

Peraino emphasized how crucial their mission is.

“Rescue is really important,” she said. “You know, all the little fur babies who are saved through raising awareness and through education, like what Glen is doing, means the world to us. It means all the world to the puppies in need.”

The Labelle Foundation was co-founded by Laura Labelle and her daughter Sabrina in late 2018 – click here to read our full feature on the organization .
