Watch Clayton Kershaw Unbox His 2024 Debut Game Cleats With His Family

Clayton Kershaw has always been a family man. He’s a devoted husband to Ellen and father to four children, Charley, Chance, Cali, and Cooper.

With Kershaw returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers for his season debut on Thursday afternoon against the San Francisco Giants, he will be sporting a new pair of cleats designed by his beloved children.

Stadium Custom Kicks took artwork drawn by his kids and put it all on the cleats. He unboxed them before his kids and wiped tears away from his eyes as he held the cleats. His kids left encouraging notes for him reading, “We are so proud of you Dad!”

There is also the Bible verse from Colossians 3:23 written above a church.

The Dodgers officially activated Kershaw on Thursday morning after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery that kept him out for the season’s first four months. Despite his dip in velocity and battle with the injury last season, he was still able to turn in a solid 2023 season.

The lefty went 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA across 131.2 innings pitched but struggled in his only postseason start. He knew he “didn’t want to go out” on a sour note like that so he prayed about it with his family and ultimately decided to have the first major surgery of his professional career.

Kershaw enters the season 56 strikeouts away from joining the 3,000-strikeout club. He would be the 20th player to join the elite list and only the fourth lefty.
