With Los Angeles Rams training camp underway, many players are fighting for a roster spot and playing time. An interesting position group to keep an eye on throughout the rest of camp is the running back room which got a mini overhaul this offseason. Let’s dive deep into each back’s performance in camp so far and predict the depth chart.

Los Angeles Rams Training Camp Battle : Running Backs

    Kyren Williams

Kyren Williams wasted no time getting back in action after missing OTAs with an injury. He looked just like normal working with the first-team offense and should unquestionably be the starter going into the year.

“I thought Blake Corum had some really good runs.” Sean McVay said after Rams training camp, “I thought Ronnie Rivers , Boston Scott , but I think it starts with Kyren, and it was great to have him out here. He’s just got such a good energy, this guy loves playing football. I love working with him, and certainly didn’t see anything that looked any different than the stud that we know.”

    Blake Corum

The rookie so far has obviously impressed the coaches. At times it’s indistinguishable who’s taking handoffs from Matthew Stafford as he and Williams look and play so similarly. Their numbers are even as close to the same as possible, 22 and 23. Similar to how it’s been working in Rams training camp, expect to see Corum come in relief of Williams more than you’d expect.

    Ronnie Rivers

Ronnie Rivers so far has had an impressive camp and could sneak his way into a role with the team. He’s gotten a good amount of work and was used as a receiver as well. He drew praise from the offensive coaching staff on the second day with a deep route down the left sideline. He put on the breaks at just the right time, making the cornerback overcorrect, Rivers with incredible body control turned and made the catch. With a sizable role in the past and familiarity in the offense as well as a great camp, I could see him making the roster.

    Boston Scott

A surprising free agent signing, Boston Scott might have a better chance of seeing the field as the kick returner rather than a starting running back, but with the new kickoff rules, that role may be more impactful than even. Scott has some experience returning for the Philadelphia Eagles. In his most active season in the role, 2020, he returned 28 kicks for 590 yards. Having a similar role as a gadget player on offense and when the Rams play the New York Giants (IYKYK)

    Zach Evans

Zach Evans is an interesting case, as even when Kyren went down last season, he wasn’t much of a factor. Despite being a draft pick just last year, he’s on the roster bubble and will need to impress the rest of camp to ensure a spot on the 53-man roster.
