Drag Star Morphine Love Dion ‘Traumatized’ After Surviving Deadly Car Crash

RuPaul’s Drag Race star Morphine Love Dion is grateful to be alive after surviving a car crash that killed one person in L.A. On Monday, the drag performer shared that she was in recovery, though “traumatized,” at home in Miami after the accident last weekend.

“I was in a serious car accident suffering a fractured collarbone. I also broke my jaw in half for which I needed surgery to repair and [led] to the loss of several teeth,” Morphine wrote on Instagram. “I’m still a bit sad and traumatized but extremely grateful and happy to be alive.”

The drag star was in Los Angeles for DragCon. According to local reports, the crash left six injured and one person dead. Morphine’s team put out a statement shortly after the accident saying she “suffered multiple injuries” but was alive.

According to an accident report obtained by EW , a gray sedan crashed into the center divider of a freeway, before being hit by a minivan. A woman in her twenties in the sedan died from her injuries. Canada’s Drag Race star Kaos was also in an Uber with Morphine, though she “was OK” after the accident.

“I want to thank everyone for all the love and positive messages I have been receiving,” Morphine wrote Monday, later adding, “I am back in Miami focusing on my recovery.”

Morphine assured fans she’d “post updates periodically” on her recovery. She thanked her closest friends, MTV, Drag Race ‘s production company WOW, and her manager for taking care of her. “You have been nothing but amazing to me,” she wrote. “I love you all so so so much and hope to be back doing what I love very soon. I love you and see you soon.”

After her post Monday, Morphine’s comment section quickly filled with supportive comments from fans and fellow drag stars alike. “We love you Morphine! Speedy recovery mi Reina ,” wrote Valentina.

“Angel of mine! Take your time rebuild your vitality we love you so much,” added Kerri Colby. “Wishing you a speedy recovery, love you sis,” wrote Laganja Estranja. “We love uuuuu,” added Jiggly Caliente.

Morphine competed on Season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race earlier this year, reaching fifth place and becoming a franchise favorite. She also joined Kesha onstage during her show at WeHo Pride last month.
