Dodgers acquire infielder ahead of trade deadline for the second time

While Monday was trade deadline eve for most of MLB, it was "Groundhog Day" for the Dodgers.

Like the 1993 film, where Bill Murray relives the same day, Los Angeles repeated a move it made last year when it traded for infielder Amed Rosario.

Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers acquired Rosario from the Rays, and the team later revealed they sent minor-league right-hander Michael Flynn to Tampa Bay.

Last year, the Dodgers added Rosario in a deal with the Guardians for pitcher Noah Syndergaard and cash.

Rosario has a career-high .307 batting average this season with 22 extra-base hits. His strikeout rate (17.5%) is well below the MLB average (22.6%).

While solid in Dodger Blue a year ago, his first run with the organization didn't finish as planned.

He appeared in 48 games for the franchise in 2023, hitting .256. Manager Dave Roberts left him off the team's NLDS roster, instead opting for second baseman Kolten Wong, who was 0-for-3 in four plate appearances in the three-game sweep by the Diamondbacks.

With Los Angeles (63-44) cruising toward a third-consecutive division title and 11th in the past 12 years, Rosario is a few months away from potentially making his Dodgers playoff debut.

The Dodgers and Rosario likely hope that while their following a similar script to last season, it doesn't have the same ending.
