Around seven years ago, Dan Feder and Don Bacigalupi doled out $4.1 million for a home in the historic Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles that was designed by William Hefner and built in 2010. Attracted at the outset by the noted architect’s signature well-proportioned rooms boasting elegant details and a prime indoor/outdoor flow via glass and steel doors throughout, the artistic-minded couple—Dan a creative director and Don a museum executive—subsequently enlisted local designer Sally Breer to bring a touch of flair to the premises.

“When we interviewed interior designers to do the re-imagination, Sally was young and energetic and artistic and creative, and we thought she would bring a contemporary sensibility to the house,” says Don. “Hefner’s designs are traditionally notable in that he engages historic architectural styles. So, even though it looks like a 1920s French chateau, she brought a colorful and lively aesthetic that perked up the historic notes. The two pair together to create what I really think is the perfect house—beautifully built and designed, and now beautifully lively and full of light and color.”

The result of Breer’s efforts is a seven-bedroom, nine-bath residence featuring nearly 7,500 square feet of living space accented with eye-catching Missoni carpet and wallpaper, Murano glass light fixtures, roman shades and black-out curtains, an elevator, water-softening and smart lighting systems, fiber-optic and CCTV wiring, and a total of six HVAC zones. Now hitting the market with a $6.75 million price tag, the listing is held by Ben Belack of The Agency.

Clad in cream-hued stucco and matching brick, the multi-level structure is tucked away behind high hedges and fronted by a duo of towering cypress trees flanking a set of steps leading up to a hand-carved wood door, which opens into a classic entrance hallway flowing to formal living and dining rooms.

Especially standing out is a handsome study that spills out to a central courtyard, as well as a gourmet kitchen outfitted with a center island, three dishwashers, three ovens, two ranges, and a butler’s pantry. An adjoining breakfast nook and a fireside family room both provide access to an al fresco dining terrace.

Upstairs, a vaulted primary suite is decked out with a fireplace, a private balcony, and a luxe bath sporting dual vanities, a built-in spa tub, and a walk-in closet. The posh amenities continue down on the lower level, where there’s a screening room, an office, a gym, and numerous flex and storage spaces. Topping it all off: a grassy backyard hosting a saltwater lap pool, plus an attached subterranean garage with an automated turntable that can accommodate up to three vehicles.
