Things did not go well for Clayton Kershaw in Wednesday’s outing against the San Diego Padres. The rough outing for Kershaw brought an end to an impressive, record-setting streak for the Los Angeles Dodgers ace.

Kershaw surrendered seven runs (three earned) on six hits with a walk while lasting only 3.2 innings.

Wednesday’s game, which was an 8-1 loss for the Dodgers, was the 424th start of Kershaw’s career. While they’ve been few and far between, Kershaw has had some bad starts. But Fabian Ardaya noted that Wednesday’s game was a first.

“For the first time in his career, Clayton Kershaw has started a game and exited without striking anyone out,” Ardaya shared on X (formerly Twitter) after Kershaw was removed.

Ardaya later clarified that the streak was limited to the regular season.

Wednesday’s outing didn’t just mark the end of an impressive streak in what will be a Hall of Fame career. Alden González of ESPN shared that Kershaw’s 423 straight starts with a strikeout “was the longest since the mound was moved to its current distance in 1893.” The next two pitchers on the list are Hall of Famers Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan, who had streaks of 411 and 382, respectively, during their careers.
