Lincoln Riley gave a statement about the opening of fall camp to reporters at USC media day , hosted by the USC athletic department for the local media in Los Angeles.

“From an injury standpoint we are in pretty good shape. We have a couple of guys that won’t be fully available when we start camp — although we don’t have anybody that we don’t expect to get back at some point here during the season — most of these guys pretty quick.

He then went on to announce four Trojans who would not be full participants for fall camp.

“Carson Tabaracci, Makai Saina, Jadyn Walker and Kalolo Ta’aga are four guys right now that won’t be full go when we open up camp.” Lincoln explained. “Everybody else is going to be full go and fully available. And we look forward to getting those four guys back here pretty soon. So we are in a good place from and injury standpoint going into camp.”

Saina and Ta’aga are true freshmen offensive linemen. Walker is a linebacker and also a true freshman; none of them will be counted on early.  However, Tabaracci adds valuable depth to a talented but young tight end room.  He flashed potential last season at the H back position where he had a 32-yard reception from Miller Moss in the Holiday Bowl against Louisville.

The Trojans have escaped the offseason without any serious injury problems, but getting their redshirt sophomore tight end, young linebacker, and offensive linemen back soon is important for their future development.  In a season where depth may be their biggest enemy, USC has cleared one hurdle relatively cleanly.
