Newly acquired Dodger gives promising update on his rehab assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers were one of baseball's busiest teams at the trade deadline. They added several major pieces to bolster their roster for the stretch run.

Some of the players they acquired included Jack Flaherty and Amed Rosario, but another one of their additions, Tommy Edman, has been out for most of the season. Fortunately, he gave a positive update this week on his rehab assignment.

"I'm getting reevaluated here over the next couple of days and figuring out how close I am to playing the field again, but it shouldn't be too long," Edman said on Wednesday.

Edman has spent his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals. He came up with the team in 2019 and has been a key piece to the puzzle since then. He's been able to play almost every position on the field.

The super-utility man was set to be the Cardinals' Opening Day center fielder, but he missed time due to offseason wrist surgery and hasn't played a game this season. He also dealt with multiple setbacks due to ankle troubles.

Fortunately for the Dodgers, Edman appears to be making good progress. The team will need him when he comes back from the injured list, as they have plenty of stars currently on the shelf, including starting shortstop Mookie Betts, first baseman Freddie Freeman, and third baseman Max Muncy.

The Dodgers currently have the second-best record in the National League. At 63-45, they have a 5 1/2 game lead over the second-place San Diego Padres.
