Kobe Bryant remains a global basketball icon even several years after the tragic passing of he and his daughter, Gigi Bryant.

In wake of the Los Angeles Lakers unveiling a statue of the late Bryant's outside Crypto.com Arena on Friday, Kobe's old locker at the beloved venue made auction history.

A buyer paid a whopping $2.9 million to secure the locker Bryant used at what was then called Staples Center from 2003-16, according to Courtside Buzz, making it the most expensive sports locker ever sold.

The locker was reportedly found and maintained by a Staples Center worker in 2018 who was contributing to arena renovations.

One of the most beloved players in NBA history, Bryant, his daughter and seven other people died in a helicopter crash on January 20th, 2020.

Bryant won five championships with the Lakers after joining the purple-and-gold on a draft-night trade in 1996. He paired with Shaquille O'Neal in the early 2000s to lead Los Angeles to a three-peat, then was back on the NBA mountain top again in 2009 and 2010 alongside Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, among others.
