Last winter, the Los Angeles Dodgers reeled in the biggest fish in the pond when they signed two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to a 10-year, $700 million contract.

Though $68 million per year is deferred, it is the largest contract in North American sports history.

Some have questioned whether it was worth it for the Dodgers to make such an investment. On Foul Territory, former General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. weighed in on the signing.

"It's not my money. He's the best player I've ever seen," Amaro said. "I think the reality of it is, it's the market, man. This guy is an iconic player. They talk about unicorns, man. This is what he is."

Amaro seems to believe that the investment in Ohtani was worth it for the Dodgers, and it's hard to argue against that. Ohtani is clearly the best player in all of baseball and he may be on his way to winning another MVP Award soon, this time in the National League.

The two-way superstar is hitting .306 with 33 home runs and 79 RBI along with 31 stolen bases and a 1.017 OPS.

"At the end of the day, the L.A. Dodgers are going to be pretty damn happy that they made this deal," Amaro added.

Ultimately, it appears that the deal was the right move thus far. Ohtani has already put together a 30-30 season and the calendar hasn't even flipped to September yet. We'll see if he can keep it up.
