The Los Angeles Chargers signed a player with one of the best nicknames in football on Tuesday. "The King of Spring" is joining the roster in LA.

Chargers sign former Arlington Renegades star QB Luis Perez

Perez led the UFL in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating, and completions in 2023 He was also named MVP of the XFL Championship Game.

Perez certainly does have some arm talent. He showed off some pinpoint downfield accuracy this past spring, on the way to a championship win.

Perez has also played in the XFL for the New Jersey Generals, New York Guardians, and Los Angeles Wildcats. In addition to his time in the UFL and XFL, Perez has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL.

Justin Herbert suffered a foot injury last week during practice. He is expected to be off the field for, at least, a couple of weeks.

Following yesterday’s practice, Justin Herbert was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot.

Doctors have recommended approximately two weeks in a boot — followed by a graduated return to play protocol — with the expectation that he will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Accordingly, the Chargers added a unique backup option that will compete for a role on the roster with Herbert sidelined during practice.

Perez joins Easton Stick, Max Duggan, and Casey Bauman as the quarterbacks on the Chargers roster.

With the signing, Los Angeles also waived outside linebacker Savion Jackson. We will see if Perez can prove himself over the next few weeks to earn a spot on the roster or even the backup role to Herbert.
