Patrick Beverley thinks JJ Redick has some Erik Spoelstra qualities: "The way Spo talked to me, he talked to Bron the same way"

JJ Redick 's appointment as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach continues to make headlines. With training camp almost here, it remains to be seen whether or not the retired sharpshooter is the right man for the job.

During the latest episode of "The OGs Show," Mike Miller asked former Lakers guard Patrick Beverley if Redick would be successful in Los Angeles. Pat Bev said yes and explained why he sees some Erik Spoelstra qualities in JJ.

"I think he's firm. And if you're firm as a coach, you're gonna have success," Beverley said . "I think that's how Spo was. And I'm not comparing JJ Redick to Spo. I'm not doing that, but Spo was firm."

Spo talked to his players the same way

Beverley was the Lakers' 42nd pick in 2009 before the Miami Heat acquired his draft rights.

The Heat invited Pat to the 2010 training camp, where he did well. However, despite making a good impression on the coaching staff, Beverley was one of the last cuts before the start of the season. He then went to play in Greece and helped Olympiacos Piraeus win the 2010 Greek Cup and reach the finals of the EuroLeague.

Still, during his short stint in South Beach, Pat Bev spent some time with Spoelstra. That's when he learned what Erik was like as a coach.

"The way Spo talked to me, he talked to Bron the same way," added Beverley. "I couldn't even have no room for error like that. 'All right, Pat Bev, if you want to piss on the ball and not know the play, sit his a** on the corner.' 'Hold on, okay. Let me get my playbook. Let me lock in real quick.' I witnessed him say the same thing to D-Wade and the same thing to Bron."

    Redick deserves a chance

Many opposed the idea of JJ landing what is arguably the most high-profile coaching job in the NBA. The arguments ranged from his lack of coaching experience to his inability to command the locker room. Former Lakers player Lou Williams also singled out the latter .

"There is no chance that JJ Redick is going to be able to command that locker room. Yeah, him and LeBron can sit there, drink wine together, and break down plays, but it's a little different when you got 20,000 people screaming at you, and you have 11 other players that you have to manage as well," Lou said on " Run it Back ."

Coaching the Lakers is a different animal, and the pressure in L.A. might be too much for someone without any experience, especially with LeBron James on the team. However, JJ deserves an opportunity to prove whether he's the right man for the job.

The Heat gave Spo a chance, and he paid them back by becoming arguably the best coach in the league. The Lakers Nation can only hope the same happens with Redick.
