My Best of L.A.: Bill Maher

Los Angeles' April cover star Bill Maher has a résumé that includes TV and podcast host (HBO’s Real Time and Club Random , respectively) and bestselling author. His first book in more than a decade, What This Comedian Said Will Shock You — a collection of the editorials he delivers at the end of each episode of Real Time — came out in May.

"I’ve always been a big booster of L.A. and I feel like I’ve suffered with the New York press from that," he said in his cover story interview . "I moved to L.A. in 1983 and this city sucked my dick on the first date. It’s a freer feeling out here. Even if you gave me the greatest apartment in New York, I would prefer a small two bedroom in Van Nuys."

“Sit outside, order eggs, which they’ll make for you anytime," he says of the Beverly Hills institution. "It’s just beautiful. I was a big supporter when no one would go there.”
