    Michelin-Starred Camphor Is Popping Up at the Peninsula Beverly Hills

    Been meaning to try Michelin-starred modern French bistro Camphor but haven't made it to the Downtown L.A.'s Arts District?

    As part of the pop-up dinner series the Peninsula Beverly Hills has been doing for the last few summers with world-renowned restaurants (from Japanese to Italian), Camphor will be taking over the Belvedere Terrace to offer a multi-course meal ($165/person) from 5 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 16 to 31.

    From the terrace's scenic European courtyard — complete with outdoor fireplace and an iconic Robert Indiana “Love” sculpture — guests will enjoy a tasting menu of Camphor's best bites.

    Executive chef Max Boonthanakit is now at the helm of the restaurant owned by Cyrus Batchan and Sarah Lam, where he's drawing from his global upbringing and classical French training in surprising dishes. Camphor recently launched a monthly steak frites night and a Bastille Day special prior to teaming with the Peninsula Beverly Hills on a summer culinary experience experience.

    Diners will start with gougere and truffle before moving on to kanpachi with green apple and goat cheese; ratatouille; scallop; and chicken with albufera and leek. Pair dishes with Camphor’s classic cocktails with a French twist and a selection of special wines.

    The meal will finish with a seasonal tart made with vanilla cream and meringue — and a desire to visit Camphor to try additional menu items.
