Los Gatos Park Improvements To Fill Equity Gaps
Dead, dry grass and tree stumps covering a corner of a popular Los Gatos neighborhood park will be transformed into a new grove thanks to a financial boost. Live Oak Manor Park, a roughly 4.1-acre, narrow strip of land nestled between homes and utility poles, will be replanted with a centennial grove and a meandering path. The grove will replace the dead grass and include benches and a copse of trees surrounding a central tree. The majority of funding will come from the Rotary Club of Los Gatos as a celebration of its 100th anniversary.

Around Town: Rock stars, they’re just like us
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... EATS LIKE JAGGER … On Tuesday night, Italian restaurant iTalico, received a call that a VIP wanted to pay the establishment a visit. “We didn’t know who it was but decided to keep the kitchen open and wait for all the people to leave,” said restaurant owner Maico Campilongo. Soon after, Rolling Stones lead Mick Jagger walked in through the back door, dressed in a navy sweater with a pop of paisley on his stuck-out collar. “You could recognize him from a mile away,” Campilongo said. A Palo Alto doctor recommended the award-winning restaurant to Jagger – who was feeling pasta, Campilongo said. ITalico was established in 2016, serving up comforting yet complex dishes like grilled octopus with lemon, spinach gnocchi and of course, thin crackly pizza. Jagger began his new tour with the Stones in April and played his first Bay Area show in for the tour at Levi Stadium on Wednesday night. Campilongo has a knack for music himself, performing on Mondays at the restaurant – so he was glad to see the iconic musician at his eatery, posting a photo on iTalico’s Instagram. “Palo Alto is a special place,” Campilongo said.

At Emerald Mallard, SC Bread Boy crafts French cuisine with maximalist attitude
“It’s simple,” chef Lance Ebert started, before describing a dish that no normal person would ever consider to be, in any way, simple. Like how to butterfly a whole rockfish and cook it over a yakitori grill, fanning it smoothly with Japanese oak to infuse the lean fish with flavorful smoke without overpowering it. Or the process of cutting nickel-sized coins of perfect summer cantaloupe, vacuum-sealing and freezing them with liquid nitrogen in order to break the fruit’s cellular walls and concentrate its flavor into tiny bites of the “best melon you’ve ever tasted.” You know, simple stuff.
Meet Malcolm Harris, Author of “Palo Alto”
Last week, David Sacks addressed the crowd at the Republican National Convention 2024 in Milwaukee, an event our Talk of the Bay host Chris Krohn has been covering [LINKS COMING SOON]. I strongly recommend reading Malcolm Harris’s book “Palo Alto” to understand how exactly we arrived at this point: how did we get from exporting Californian mining engineering expertise around the globe after the Gold Rush to the venture capitalists like Joe Londsdale and David Sacks impacting national politics?
