Three Oak Ridge players win medals in table tennis at Senior Olympics in Franklin
Three local table tennis players were medalists at this year’s Tennessee Senior Olympics finals. Competing June 24 at Franklin’s Academy Park, Greg Hamilton won a bronze medal in the 70-74 men’s singles and teamed with Geoff Tillett to win a bronze in 65-69 doubles, a news release said. Blaine Stewart was a silver medalist in the men’s 55-59 singles. All three have competed locally at the Oak Ridge Senior Center.
Lenoir City, Loudon Fitness Centers helping student athletes
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s summer athletic dead period, which sees the stop of any school organization practices and workouts on school property, is in full swing from June 23 through July 7. One local business is giving back to the community in a unique way. Team registration for the City of Oak Ridge Department of Recreation & Parks’ 2024 Fall Softball season will open on June 28, 2024. A Men’s League will be offered on Monday evenings with the possibility of Thursday make-up games. A recreational and a competitive Co-Ed league will be offered on Tuesday evenings with the possibility of Thursday make up games.

Six area soccer players have earned All-District honors after the spring season with two Sweetwater Wildcats picking up specialty awards. Sweetwater’s Campbell Hicks was named Defensive Player of the Year while freshman Bryce Teutimez was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Former Farragut infielder transfers within SEC
The college baseball season ended on Monday with Tennessee defeating Texas A&M in the College World Series Finals. Since the contest, Texas A&M utility player Jett Johnston entered the NCAA transfer portal. He announced his commitment to Auburn on Sunday. “New beginnings,” Johnston said. “Blessed, excited and ready to get to work!! Fired up to be an Auburn Tiger.” Johnston went to Texas A&M from Farragut High School in Farragut, Tennessee. Johnston was a starting third baseman when Farragut won consecutive state titles in Tennessee from 2022-23.
