Aurora’s pallet shelters for people experiencing homelessness, which only allow a maximum 30-day stay, have been cycling the same individuals in and out, city staff told council members Thursday. Many return to street encampments when their time in the pallet shelter runs out, Jessica Prosser, homeless services director for the city, said. Then, the city sweeps the encampment again, and they get to come back to the shelter for another 30 days, Prosser explained. This process can repeat multiple times.

A 53-year-old man from Douglas was recently arrested after local drug detectives executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Crown Villas complex. According to a preliminary report from the Coffee County Drug Unit, detectives conducted the search on June 27 based on prior cocaine purchases made at the location. Upon entry, detectives found Alyn Franklyn, identified as a black male, in the master bedroom. During the search, one detective discovered a small brown plastic bag/wrapper containing suspected crack cocaine on top of the microwave in the kitchen.

NEW JERSEY - Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Consumer Affairs announced today that Walmart has agreed to pay $1.64 million to settle allegations of unlawful unit pricing practices across its 64 New Jersey retail stores. The settlement, which includes a $1.61 million civil penalty, marks the largest ever obtained by the Division’s Office of Weights and Measures (OWM).

The Denver City Council voted Monday to spend $5 million to shuffle 250 homeless people from the street directly into leased housing. The contract goes to Housing Connector, which has experience in such matters, according to a memo from city staff to the City Council. Extra money is included in the contract for things such as unexpected repairs, said Midori Higa of the Department of Housing Stability. She said if someone has a bad day and breaks a window, a replacement will be covered.
