Sacred Heart tennis is The Courier Journal's top high school girls team from the spring, as voted by our readers.

The Valkyries defeated Corbin, 3-0, to capture their sixth straight team state championship and 15th overall. Sacred Heart also got individual state championships from senior Ellie Hammond in singles and the doubles pair of seniors Avery Voss and Lilah Jane Shallcross.

Here's a look back at the other four teams nominated for the award:

    Assumption softball

The Rockets won a regional title for the first time since 1998 and reached the state tournament semifinals before falling, 8-0, to North Laurel and finishing with a 30-12 record. A pair of juniors earned second-team All-State honors: Lauren Satterly and Lauren Campisano.

    Christian Academy track and field

The Centurions won the Class 2A, Region Three title and finished second behind Lexington Catholic in the Class 2A state meet. The 400-meter relay team of Kylie Moore, Taylor Touche, Ava Moore and Ella Mast won the state title. Kylie Moore, an eighth grader, also won the high jump.

    Kentucky Country Day lacrosse

The Bearcats beat Eastern, 13-4, to capture their third Kentucky Scholastic Lacrosse League title in the last four years and finish with a 26-2 record, going undefeated against Kentucky competition. Dylan Yonover (Attacker of the Year), Ellie Beam (Midfielder of the Year) and Aspen Caudill (Goalie of the Year) earned top postseason honors from the KSLL.

    Manual track and field

The Crimsons won the Class 3A state championship for the fourth straight year. Manual junior E’Ternity Starks won the high jump, and senior Flora Biro finished second in the 1,600 meters and third in the 3,200.
