Kentucky firefighter dies in off-duty drowning at Barren River Lake

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — A Louisville firefighter and emergency medical services member is dead after a tragic accident.

Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS said on Facebook that Sgt. Christian Smith, 35, drowned while swimming at Barren River Lake.

Smith had worked with the department since 2014, according to the fire department.

“The days and weeks ahead will be challenging, but it is crucial that we stand united as a department,” wrote Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS .
