Ready or not, the new school year is less than a month away.

The first day of school in the Poudre, Thompson and Weld RE-4 school districts is Thursday, Aug. 15, with students beginning sixth and ninth grades returning a day earlier in order to ease their transition to a new school. That transition day also applies to kindergartners in the Thompson (Loveland-Berthoud) and Weld RE-4 (Windsor-Severance) school districts.

Teachers, administrators and other school staff return before that on schedules that vary by district, grade level, seniority and job duties.

College students have a few more days of summer locally than those in grades K-12.

Classes at Colorado State University and Front Range Community College begin Monday, Aug. 19. Classes at Aims Community College begin a week later, on Monday, Aug. 26.

The weeklong fall break that includes Thanksgiving for the 2024-25 school year runs from Monday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 29, in all three local K-12 school districts as well as CSU and FRCC. Aims Community College has a three-day break for the Thanksgiving holiday, from Wednesday, Nov. 27, through Friday, Nov. 29.

The winter holiday break for students in grades K-12 in all three local school districts begins Monday, Dec. 23, with classes resuming Tuesday, Jan. 7. Teachers in the Thompson and Weld RE-4 school districts are scheduled to return for workdays with no students on Monday, Jan. 6.

The fall semester at CSU and Aims Community College ends Friday, Dec. 13. The final day of fall classes at FRCC is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 9.

The spring semester at CSU, FRCC and Aims begins Tuesday, Jan. 21.
