DENVER ( KDVR ) — Colorado legislators spoke out on Monday after someone posted a threatening message about specific lawmakers online.

The post read, “Now is the time to put the crosshairs on the Christian nationalist running in Larimer County. ‘Bobblehead’ Bobert, ‘scrap yard’ Benny and ‘Mr Militia’ Weinberg.”

The last portion of the post seems to reference Rep. Ron Weinberg, a Republican representing Colorado’s District 51, which includes Loveland. He told FOX31 that he only learned about the post after he was texted by concerned individuals, but said that there is no place for that kind of violent language in today’s political sphere, especially after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

“I’ve had so many responses for the past 24 hours of Democrats and Republicans and other candidates. They all want the same thing, which is what I want — to answer your question —which is unity. We don’t want to fight anymore,” Weinberg told FOX31.

He said several agencies checked in with him on Sunday, including the Loveland Police Department, to make sure the representative and his family were safe.

FOX31 reached out to several law enforcement agencies about the post, including the Colorado State Patrol, which sent the following statement.

Colorado State Patrol has worked with law enforcement who handled security for representative Ron Weinberg. Colorado State Patrol has never directly handled security for representative Ron Weinberg, so we cannot share the current status of that for him. As a federal elected official, Colorado State Patrol would not provide security to Representative Boebert unless requested by Capitol Police. Colorado State Patrol has not received a request.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican representing Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, said her team notified Capitol police and the agency has launched an investigation.
