After 31 years in operation, owners Teresa and Rick Morgan put their Loveland Dairy Whip on the market, hoping to find a new owner to carry on the ice cream stand's legacy. The couple is selling so that they can retire.

"Unfortunately, the next Morgan generation is not interested in carrying on the ice cream tradition. So, we are hopeful a family will be interested in starting their new family tradition by purchasing the Dairy Whip," the owners said in a statement.

The iconic ice cream shop has been passed down through Teresa's family. She said this was a bittersweet moment.

Over three decades, the Loveland Dairy Whip has been established as a community favorite, often drawing crowds from its opening in March to its annual seasonal closure.

The sale of the Loveland Dairy Whip was announced on Wednesday.

What would it cost to buy Loveland Dairy Whip?

The stand is listed for $1.65 million, according to real estate agent Brittney Frietch. She said she feels confident the Loveland Dairy Whip can sell for that price, or higher.

Since the business announced it was selling on July 3, Frietch said there have been more than 100 inquiries. Morgan confirmed that the business has received offers. She estimated the Loveland Dairy Whip will have new owners by September.

    Is Loveland Dairy Whip closing?

No. Morgan said they plan to keep the stand running until through the ownership transition.

Will it remain an ice cream stand under new owners?

In the listing, the current owners asked to know the intent of potential buyers. Her prospective buyers will keep Loveland Dairy Whip as an ice cream stand, with a few additions, according to Morgan.

"We would hope that because it has been such a Loveland staple, that they would continue to operate it," Morgan said.

What are customers saying about the sale?

Just two days after the sale was announced, the drive-thru line had a consistent and steady stream of patrons getting their soft serve. The well-loved picnic tables lining the business were also nearly all filled with families and locals who consider Loveland Dairy Whip to be an establishment in the community.

Blanca Chance, Loveland, was among the Friday afternoon crowd. She said she frequents the soft-serve stand, even having pictures of her kids and dogs hung up at the establishment over the years.

She was shocked when she heard the news. "It's not going to be the same," she said.

Because Loveland Dairy Whip is such a popular ice cream destination in the Loveland community, many fear that with new ownership, change will come to the establishment.

"We just hope someone doesn't come in and tear it down," said Judy Shope of Loveland. She enjoys stopping by the stand with her husband Ron for a small cone of chocolate soft serve.

Kristen and Michael Logue of Union Township see the Loveland Dairy Whip as a community-oriented mom-and-pop shop. They enjoy bringing their two kids to the ice cream stand, as well as visitors when they come to town. "We hope whoever assumes this place will continue to make it better," Kristen said.
