Senior housing in the works for east Charlotte
Eliza Hammond, a pharmacist with Atrium Health for 16 years, was frustrated with Charlotte’s lack of affordable housing, so she took matters into her own hands. Hammond is working to build a new housing community for senior citizens in east Charlotte. The 40,000-square-foot community will include 32 units and is expected to cost around $9 million. The 1.5 acres of land, purchased by Hammond’s mother during the pandemic, was approved for use as “an age-targeted and income-restricted multi-family residential community” in March 2023 by the city of Charlotte.

A woman faces an involuntary manslaughter charge in North Carolina after her child died from being left in a hot car, police said. Piedmont Region Faces Dangerous Heat Wave, Heat Advisory in Effect for Charlotte and Surrounding Areas
