Creating a Third Space: Writing Camp at Queens
During a blistering week in early July—hot even by Charlotte standards—22 rising sixth through 10th graders gathered in the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for the Arts and Civic Engagement. In its fifth year, Creative Writing Camp at Queens has grown from its 2020 virtual launch to being housed now in the most beautiful building on campus, drawing students from all over the city for a week where they can gather and celebrate their love of reading, writing, discussion, and creativity.
Charlotte Charter School Celebrating 10-Year Milestone w/ Community Block Party
A.C.E. Academy, a leading Charlotte charter school, is commemorating 10 years of academic and programmatic achievements with a “farewell to Summer” block party event. Founded in 2014 by entrepreneurs including Laila Minott, Shawn Smalls, and Shannon Martin, A.C.E. Academy is a public, tuition-free K-8 charter school. The school’s curriculum and summer camps focus on college preparation and entrepreneurship and is most well-known for its Young Moguls club which has allowed students to create small businesses that have earned more than $30,000 to date. Some of those young moguls will be hand vending and showcasing their creations during the event. The A.C.E Academy 10 Year Block Party will take place on Saturday, July 27 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at 7807 Caldwell Rd, Harrisburg, NC.

A tragic incident has left a local family and community grieving after a fatal collision between an SUV and a bicycle in the Hickory Grove Division.
