The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole to a man sentenced for Lowndes County Convictions in a hearing on April 4.

Taurus James Shackleford, 36, is housed at the Elmore Correctional Facility, serving 16 years for a 2021 violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Act (SORNA). His term includes two years for a December 2020 SORNA violation and a June 2022 conviction for possessing a controlled substance.

The board denied the request and set Shackleford’s next hearing date for April 2026.

Shackleford’s current sentence is not his first incarceration. He also served two years for a September 2015 conviction for SORNA violations concurrently with a March 2017 conviction for possession of a controlled substance. He also served three years for a 2011 conviction for possession of a controlled substance, first-degree robbery and third-degree robbery.

The board considered 20 parole requests, granting six and denying 14. Eleven pardon hearings were held. The board granted eight, denied three and continued one pardon petition.
