Police have identified the person who was arrested Thursday night following an hours-long SWAT callout in central Lubbock.

The Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Unit initially began searching for David Valdez Jr., 31, around 3:45 p.m. on Thursday regarding multiple warrants for his arrest, according to a news release from Lubbock police.

The LPD SWAT team was called in to assist with serving those warrants; however, upon SWAT’s arrival, Valdez refused to comply with officers to leave the house.

This refusal led to LPD negotiators being called to the scene, where, after multiple hours of negotiations, a chemical agent was deployed inside the house to force Valdez out. However, he still refused to leave.

Around 10:15 p.m., Valdez surrendered without incident.

According to LPD, he was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he is currently charged with aggravated robbery, burglary of a habitation and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

No bond has been set as of 10:30 a.m. Friday, according to LCDC records.
