Beat the Heat centers return in Lubbock to help residents, seniors stay cool during the summer

LUBBOCK, Texas — As the temperatures rise in the Hub City, Reliant and the City of Lubbock Public Libraries will join forces to open four Beat the Heat centers to help residents stay cool and manage their electricity use during the hot summer months.

According to a press release, the program provides seniors and vulnerable Texas a “cool, safe space to escape extreme heat.” The centers will provide a place where residents can rest and cool off while enjoying free Wi-Fi and charging stations.

Additionally, representatives will provide information on Reliant bill payment assistance and flexible payment options for qualified customers in need.

The list of Beat the Heat centers and hours are below.

• Godeke Library: 5034 Frankford Avenue

Monday- Tuesday, 12-9 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday, Closed

• Groves Library: 5520 19th Street

Monday-Tuesday, 12-9 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday, Closed

• Mahon Library: 1306 9th Street

Monday- Wednesday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Thursday- Saturday,  9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday 1-5 p.m.

• Patterson Library: 1836 Parkway Drive

Monday- Tuesday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Wednesday- Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday, closed
