    Comings and goings: Lubbock's openings, closings, confirmed rumors from June 2024

    Lubbock saw a boom of business news from restaurants to retail in June. Here's a look at what opened, closed and confirmed upcoming spots in the Hub City.

    In June 2023 , there were 25 business announcements. June 2024 saw 19.

    Here's which Lubbock businesses opened or moved in June 2024

    806 Splatter

    What: This colorful new business is the only one of its kind within 300 miles. 806 Splatter is a splatter paint room, which allow guests to let their creativity fly with paint. At 806, each guest will be given an 11-by-14 inch canvas, acrylic neon paints, brushes, shoe covers, ponchos and eye protection after signing the waiver, then they can get painting.

    All American Eatery - Wolfforth

    What: All American Eatery expanded to Wolfforth with a new location.

    When: June 3.

    Candy Girl

    What: The mobile candy truck opened a storefront in the Lubbock Square Shopping Center. It sells freeze-dried candy, pickle kits and exotic candy and drinks.

    When: June 17.

    Where: 4618 50th St. in the Lubbock Square Shopping Center.

    Cow-A-Bunga Smash Burgers

    What: A new burger truck joined the Lubbock food truck fleet.

    When : June 22.

    Where: Mobile food truck. Visit its Facebook page for locations.

    L&W Supply

    What: This business is a nationwide distributor of interior building materials and construction supplies.

    When: June 13.

    Where: 312 SE Loop 289.

    More: Chicago-based interior products company opens Lubbock location

    Physical Therapy Today

    What: This business moved into a new location.

    When: June 10.

    Where: 12706 Indiana Ave.

    Prime IV Hydration & Wellness

    What: This health spa opened in South Lubbock.

    When: June 20.

    Where: 11010 Slide Road.

    Vallarta Taqueria

    What: A new Mexican restaurant with a drive-thru opened at the former Heff's location, which closed on Dec. 19, 2023 due to increases in rent and food costs.

    When: June 25.

    Where: 5727 82nd St.

    Here's which businesses closed in June 2024

    Broadway Fish & More

    What: The restaurant's owners decided to close their doors permanently to "pursue our dreams in the food truck industry," according to an announcement on June 4.

    When: June 15.

    Where: 1702 E. Broadway St.

    Burklee Hill Vineyards

    What: The downtown restaurant decided to close after 4 years of serving wine and upscale dining.

    When: June 2.

    Where: 1109 Broadway.

    Chez Sami - Wolfforth

    What: The Wolfforth restaurant closed with a final meal in July. The Lubbock location, 1219 Crickets Ave., remains open.

    Chop Chop at 82nd and Indiana

    What: Chop Chop closed one of their three locations suddenly. The business stated this was to consolidate operations to better serve customers. The locations at 7320 Milwaukee Ave. and 5707 4th St. will continue.

    Hooters

    What: A series of sudden closures shuttered 40 restaurants throughout the wings franchise, including the Lubbock location.

    When: June 23.

    Rue 21

    What: The store closed as the chain began the bankruptcy process.

    When: Early June.

    Where: 6076 Marsha Sharp Freeway West #300.

    Here's which businesses, restaurants confirmed or denied Lubbock locations in June 2024

    Barefoot Lubbock

    Announced: Barefoot Campus Outfitter will open a location at 2407 9th St., Suite 200, in the fall of 2024.

    Bread & Jam at Chicago Station

    Announced: While an opening date has not been given yet, this business pairs The Breads & The Bees, a sourdough bakery using organic grains and non-GMO ingredients, and Kelle B Jammin', which specializes in jams and casseroles, at 5507 126th St., Suite 211.

    Hawaiian Bros Island Grill

    Announced: The Hawaiian restaurant will open on July 1. The first 100 customers will receive a free t-shirt and a restaurant gift card ranging from $25-500 with purchase, and one customer will win free Hawaiian Bros for a year.

    Lubbock Escapes

    Pending closure: The escape room business at 3025 34th St. announced their pending closure on social media on June 25. The final day will be on July 14.

    "We share wonderful memories with our escape room community including birthday and anniversary celebrations, engagement announcements, and office teambuilding just to name a few but as a family-owned small business, our priorities have changed," the business stated on social media. "We now spend our free time watching our littles play college and high school volleyball, 2 others just recently placed 1st and 4th in the 4A New Mexico State tennis tournament, and we welcomed another future escapee 18 months ago.

    Sherwin-Williams

    Confirmed: A sign confirmed the paint store will open in the former Kelly-Moore Paints, 4521 50th St., which unexpectedly closed in 2023.
